ICYMI: Somos Celebrates Mother's Day with Economic Empowerment Events Across Three States

Somos Votantes Honors Hardworking Latina Mothers with Career Development, Financial Literacy, and Business Tools and Opportunities in NV, MI and WI

WASHINGTON, D.C. —In honor of May being a month to celebrate mothers, Somos hosted three special Mother's Day celebrations across Wisconsin, Nevada, and Michigan. These events highlighted the organization's commitment to highlighting Latina mothers’ role as pillars of their families and communities while connecting them to valuable economic resources and professional development tools and opportunities.

Querida Madre: Una Cena Económica (May 28th)
In Nevada, mothers enjoyed a celebratory dinner while learning about economic development opportunities through presentations from the City of Las Vegas Business Incubator Program and financial literacy organizations. Participants received flowers and grocery cards as Mother's Day giveaways.

Women's Financial Empowerment Workshop (May 29th)
In Michigan, women participated in a comprehensive financial literacy workshop led by Consumers Credit Union. Attendees received gas cards and a flower pot while gaining practical financial planning tools.

Día de Madres: Conoce a Mamá Como Nunca (May 31st)
In Wisconsin, mothers and daughters came together for an evening of career empowerment featuring inspiring speakers, live mariachi music, and interactive activities. Attendees received gas cards, books, and other Somos materials while building deeper family connections and exploring new professional networks.

"These Mother's Day celebrations represent our deep commitment to honoring the incredible strength and resilience of Latina mothers," said Melissa Morales, President and Founder of Somos Votantes. "By combining celebration with economic empowerment, we're providing these remarkable women with the tools and opportunities they need to continue building prosperity for their families, especially during these challenging economic times."

Each state lead emphasized the importance of these community connections:

"This event creates a beautiful space where mothers and daughters can bond while exploring new career possibilities," said Juan García, Wisconsin Program Manager. "We're excited to strengthen our partnerships with Renace while building a stronger Latino community in Milwaukee."
"Latina mothers are the driving force behind our families, and this celebration recognizes their vital role while connecting them to real economic opportunities," said Angel Lazcano, Nevada Program Manager. "From business incubation to financial literacy, we're opening doors to lasting prosperity in the Latino community."
"Financial education is one of the most powerful tools we can provide to members of our community, especially women," said Diego Cano, Michigan Program Manager. "This workshop will give participants practical skills they can immediately apply to improve their family's economic well-being."

Together, these three events demonstrate Somos Votantes' nationwide commitment to empowering Latino families through education, connection and access to economic resources during a time when rising costs continue to challenge working families.
