New Poll Reveals Trump's Approval with Latino Voters Further Eroding Amid Rising Economic Strain
Trump’s approval on the economy plummets among Latino voters to net -20 from February amid economic pessimism, misaligned priorities and rejection of his tax bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Trump’s standing has significantly deteriorated among Latino voters, with approval ratings plummeting over his leadership and economic agenda, according to new polling data released today by Somos Votantes. The findings come at a pivotal moment as Latino families across the country confront deepening financial hardships and a persistent disconnect between their needs and the administration’s policies.
This latest survey, part of Somos Votantes’ quarterly tracking series, builds on their comprehensive post-election poll from earlier this year to measure Latinos’ sentiment toward the Trump administration and its economic policies over time.
Key findings of the poll:
- Views on the economy remain bleak. A majority of Latino voters (64%) continue to rate the U.S. economy as ‘poor,’ and 56% believe the economy is getting worse under Trump.
- Trump’s standing among Latino voters has declined sharply across all measures since February. His favorability rating worsened from -12 to -17, his job approval sank from -11 to -18, and his economic approval dropped from -13 to -20. This significant deterioration in his job approval is especially steep among Latino independents, crashing from -6 to -28 and Latina women, falling from -22 to -35.
- Frustration dominates Latino voters’ views, seven-in-ten express negative emotions (70%) when asked how they feel about the current direction of the country.
- Latino voters continue to believe Trump and Republicans are not focused on their concerns – the cost of living, the economy, Social Security and Medicare. A majority saying Trump is focused on the wrong things (56%).
- A majority (53%) are very concerned by Trump and Congressional Republicans’ plans to cut Medicaid to pay for tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations.
“The numbers tell a clear story: the longer Trump is in office, the more frustrated Latino voters become with the direction he is taking the country and his economic policies that are driving up costs for working families,” said Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos Votantes. “Hardworking Latinos wanted a government that focused on lowering the cost of living and put more money back in their pockets. Instead, people are feeling whiplash from Trump’s chaotic and shortsighted economic policies. And across the country, Latinos are very concerned that the Republican tax bill will raise their healthcare, grocery, and utility costs. Not only is economic sentiment negative, it’s worsening.”
“What stands out most is how dramatically Trump’s numbers have deteriorated in just three months among key constituencies,” said Rosa Mendoza, Vice President at Global Strategy Group. “We’re seeing double-digit drops across metrics – favorability, job approval, economic approval. That level of erosion among key persuadable audiences, including Latino independents, women and voters under 45, is not just a marginal shift. Two-thirds of Latino voters express negative emotions about the country’s direction, and there's striking misalignment in the issues they want the President and Congress focused on versus what they see the administration doing. This shows a fundamental disconnect between what this community wants and what they see the administration is delivering.”
This data underscores a persistent divide between the administration’s policy agenda and the everyday realities of Latino families, and offers insights into how these communities are responding to national developments—and how their political priorities remain focused on economic strains.
