Somos' Melissa Morales on Rising Gas Prices: "Latino families are paying the price for this administration's recklessness"
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following reports that average U.S. gasoline prices crossed $3 a gallon as a result of the escalating conflict with Iran, Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos Votantes, released the following statement:
"Latino families were already stretched to the breaking point before this week. Ninety-five percent of Latino voters told us they are concerned about rising costs. Sixty-nine percent said Trump's tariffs were already making the cost of things they buy go up. And now, because of this administration's recklessness in the Middle East, they are going to feel it again every single time they fill up their tank and cash out at the supermarket.
This is what it looks like when an administration prioritizes chaos over the issues that really matter. Trump promised to lower costs on day one. Instead, he has spent his first year manufacturing crisis after crisis — and every one of those crises has a price tag that working families end up paying. Gas prices are the number people see every day on their commute to work, on their way to drop their kids off at school, on the way to the grocery store that is already more expensive than it was a year ago. Latino voters see through it. You cannot govern by peddling distractions and then ask families to ignore what they are spending at the pump."
