icymi: Somos Votantes and Rural Arizona Engagement Bring Economic Support to Hardworking Families Through Community Lotería Night
San Luis event connected families with resources and community support during challenging economic times
WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Somos Votantes and Rural Arizona Engagement (RAZE) hosted a community Lotería Night bringing together families from San Luis to provide economic resources and strengthen community bonds for hardworking families. The organizations combined cultural celebration with direct support to address rising costs and economic uncertainty facing working families in San Luis and surrounding areas.
The evening featured multiple lotería games with prizes including gift cards, free traditional Mexican food from local vendors, and information about economic resources available to Latino communities. Attendees also connected with volunteers from both organizations and learned about ongoing community organizing efforts addressing local needs.
"We were thrilled to bring neighbors together through the joy of lotería while providing tangible support to our community," said Amber Cruz, Arizona Program Manager for Somos Votantes. "This event demonstrated our commitment to creating safe spaces where families can connect with each other and access the tools that help them thrive."
"Community events like this are essential for building the relationships and trust that make our organizing work possible," said Jhanitzel Bogarin, Yuma County Organizer for RAZE. "When we come together to celebrate our culture and support each other, we're building the foundation for positive change in our Arizona."
This collaboration between Somos Votantes and RAZE is evidence of how culturally relevant programming can address immediate community needs while building long-term organizing capacity to empower hardworking families.
