Job Growth Collapses in Latino Industries as Trump's Economic Approval Craters: Americans for Tax Fairness Releases New Analysis, Somos Votantes Shares Polling Data

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Somos Votantes and Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) held a virtual press briefing in Spanish nine months after Trump began his second term. The briefing centered around the negative economic and political impacts of Trump's fiscal policies on Latino communities. They were also joined by UnidosUS, Climate Power En Acción, and People's Action. Together, they analyzed the devastating impact of Trump's economic agenda on Latino workers and families.

ATF released a groundbreaking new analysis revealing that job growth in industries with high Latino employment — like construction, manufacturing, and health services — collapsed during the first eight months of the Trump administration compared to the same period in 2024 under President Biden. Industries with a high concentration of Latino workers created nearly 300,000 fewer jobs from January to August 2025 than during the same months in 2024 — a decline of over a third (35%).

Likewise, Somos Votantes presented polling data showing the beginning of a collapse in Latino support for Trump and Republican economic policies, with Trump's standing declining across every metric tracked over nine consecutive months. The poll reveals that previously divided Latino men have now shifted decisively negative on Trump, while young Latino voters' approval has cratered dramatically. UnidosUS highlighted the impact of cuts to government resources on working families, while Climate Power En Acción and People's Action examined how Trump's policies have increased utility costs for Latino households.

"Donald Trump's numbers with Latinos are in a freefall. Whether you're looking at job numbers, economic data, or our polling, the story is the same – Trump's economic policies are outright failing Latino communities," said Melissa Morales, Founder and President of Somos Votantes. "Trump's standing with Latino voters has begun to collapse across every single metric we track, driven decisively by the voters he thought he owned – Latino men and young Latinos. For the third consecutive quarter, the pattern is clear: the more Latino voters experience Trump's economic failures firsthand, the more they turn against him. Latino voters are pragmatic – they vote with their wallets, and Trump has emptied them."
"Republican fiscal policies are hurting the whole country, but as usual, Latinos are taking a particularly hard hit," said David Kass, ATF's executive director. "President Trump and congressional Republicans gave large tax cuts to billionaires, cut health care and nutrition for workers and families, and instituted incomprehensible tariffs. It's little wonder that Latino support for the Trump administration is collapsing along with the Latino job market as family finances are disrupted and businesses pull back investments in the face of uncertainty."
"Trump's policies are directly hitting Latino families: in the first eight months of 2025, 85,000 jobs in the clean energy sector, key for our community, were lost or put on hold, while costs of essential services like electricity continue to rise. We need policies that protect jobs, reduce costs, and strengthen Latino families' economies,” said Antonieta Cádiz, Deputy Executive Director of Climate Power En Acción.

Key findings of the poll:

  • Previously divided Latino men now decisively against Trump: After being Trump's strongest demographic bloc among Latinos, men have shifted decisively negative – his favorability today has dropped from +5 in May to -3, while job approval fell from +3 to -6. On the economy, Latino men’s approval dropped from -1 in February and May to -10 today.
  • Young voters are also driving the decline with more intensity: Young Latino voters have turned sharply against Trump with his favorability crashing to -34 (from -11 in February) and job approval collapsing to -33 (from -6 in February). On the economy, the decline is severe, cratering to -37 (from -5 in February).
  • Independent Latinos and Latina women continue to lead the opposition with intensifying disapproval: Independent Latino voters have turned decisively against Trump with favorability plummeting to -31 (from -8 in February), job approval crashing to -36 (from -6 in February), and economic approval collapsing to -45 (from -6 in February). Similarly, Latina women's opposition has intensified dramatically across all measures – favorability at -34 (from -23 in February), job approval at -37 (from -21 in February), and economic approval at -40 (from -23 in February).
  • Economic pain validates voter concerns: A staggering 71% of Latino voters say Trump's tariffs are making the cost of things they buy go up, with 42% saying costs are rising "a lot" – while his economic approval sits at -26, including -45 among independents.
  • Trump's standing begins to collapse across every metric tracked: Trump is experiencing systematic deterioration across all measures over nine consecutive months. His personal favorability has declined from -12 in February to -17 in May to -20 today. Job approval has plummeted from -11 in February to -18 in May to -23 today. Most critically, economic approval has cratered from -13 in February to -20 in May to -26 today.
  • Priority disconnect widens: Latino voters want a focus on inflation/cost of living (50%) and jobs/economy (39%), yet only 17% and 15% respectively believe Trump is addressing these priorities.
  • Tax bill backlash intensifies: An overwhelming 74% oppose Trump's tax legislation, with intense concern about SNAP cuts (61% very concerned) and healthcare costs like Medicaid (61% very concerned)
